McKinley JOG-A-THON Fundraiser
One of the Biggest School
Fundraising Events of the Year!
This year our McKinley Jog-A-Thon Fundraiser will take place on October 27, 2022!
We are happy to announce that we will have an IN-PERSON Jog-A-Thon event this year! Mark your calendars as we will need plenty of parent volunteers for this event.
Did you know that McKinley’s art, ceramics, dance, and garden programs are no longer funded by the school district and are 100% supported by PTC funding? Additionally, the PTC funds 50% of the Spanish language program and 85% of the music program. The only reason all McKinley students get to participate in these programs is because we raise the money to fund them.
This year’s prizes are Wheel-themed and school wide goals:
- $70,000 – Dance Performance (DANCE)
- $80,000 – New Percussion Instruments (MUSIC)
- $90,000 – New Pollinator Garden (GARDEN)
- $100,000 – McKinley SNOW DAY
The top runners and top fundraising classroom will be recognized.
We are asking students who are able and willing to participate to get their families, friends, neighbors, and community to sponsor them in the JOG-A-THON. We are asking for flat donations from sponsors (e.g. $25 for the whole event).
Donations can be made online via a student’s PledgeStar account, debit cards, credit cards or PayPal. We can accept personal checks made out to “McKinley School Foundation” which can be turned into the McKinley PTC lock box in the front office. Please specify “Jog-A-Thon” and your child’s name/grade in the memo. No cash will be accepted this year.
SIGN UP FOR PLEDGESTAR!
PledgeStar is our web-based fundraising tool. In addition to being easy to register and use, PledgeStar takes care of sending sponsor requests via email, notifies you of donations, and sends thank you messages to sponsors. We recommend signing your child up for a PledgeStar account to make collecting donations easy for you and donors.
- Go to http://pledgestar.com/mckinley
- Click “Not Registered for this Event?” then enter your name and email address (every family needs to register again each year)
When you finish, the system emails pledge requests to your family and friends allowing them to make secure credit card donations online. You get notified each time a pledge is made, and you can track your pledge progress online.
WINNING T-SHIRT DESIGN!
McKinley students participated in a t-shirt design contest in their classrooms recently and the final design was voted on by students.Congratulations to 4th grader Karly Franz on creating the winning design for this year’s Jog-A-Thon t-shirts.
All students, teachers and staff will be receiving a FREE Jog-A-Thon t-shirt featuring the winning design from the school-wide contest. We feel strongly that all students should have a free t-shirt to wear to the event to show their McKinley spirit and foster a sense of community.
This year, we have chosen the IB Learner Profile “Open Minded” as a theme. The design should highlight respect of all cultures and values, an openness to different points of view, and a willingness to grow.
We need a lot of volunteers to make this event happen! We need help to set up/clean up, cut oranges, help mark the kids’ laps, hand out water and orange slices during the race, and mist the kids to keep them cool. If you are able to come and help out, it really is a blast!!
If you sign up as a Lap Marker you MUST complete the process to become a Category B Volunteer (complete volunteer form, TB Test or Risk Assessment Form, copy of ID) and sign in through the office before your shift. This is required because you will be on the main campus and in the classroom for part of your shift.
All other volunteer positions will NOT be required to go through the formal process of becoming a Category B Volunteer and can enter through the Joint Use Park gates on Palm. Please do not enter the main campus at any point during the event.

THE DAY OF THE EVENT
The kids will run laps around the track (approximately 1/6 of a mile per lap). Most students run about 8 to 12 laps, a little more for the older kids.
This year’s JOG-A-THON schedule as follows:
Grade UTK (15 minutes)
8:45 – 9:00 am
Grades K & 1st (20 minutes)
9:15 – 9:35 am
Grades 2nd & 3rd (25 minutes)
9:50 – 10:15 am
Grades 4th & 5th (30 minutes)
10:30 – 11:00 am
Staff and parent volunteers will be on the course to ensure that the students do not overexert themselves. Medical professionals will be on hand to help make sure the kids are okay. In addition, there will be plenty of water and orange slices to keep the kids hydrated.
Parents/Guardians: If your child has any physical restrictions such as asthma or other respiratory problems or even if they just don’t like to run a lot, please let them know it is perfectly okay to walk or sit down if they feel the need. Please notify the office of any special requirements.
