IMG_7595Thanks to the dedicated volunteers who came out on May 14, our spring Green Day was a huge success!  The volunteers really showed their love for McKinley and helped beautify our school campus.   What a great way to see in action the IB attitudes of Cooperation, Commitment, Creativity, and Enthusiasm!

When you are on campus, check out the latest improvements:

  • New benches and picnic tables in the courtyard of the 2nd-4th grade building.
  • 5th Grade tiles installed and fence above them adorned with new recycled plastic bottle “flowers.”
  • Garden shed in the Octopus Garden completed, with its very own rain barrel!
  • New raised bed near Ms. Gentle’s classroom.
  • Mulch spread around existing trees to keep them healthy.
  • Native plants relocated from slope to front entry, since the slope will be redone over the summer with the joint use project.
  • Garden area cleaned up and leaves collected to help support our compost system.
  • Families also worked with Ms. Mindy to harvest and prepare a delicious salad enjoyed by the volunteers!

Thanks again for all those who came out to help us – we can’t express our gratitude enough! Despite the May Gray, we completed some great projects and enjoyed a day of service with other McKinley families.  If you weren’t able to participate this time, we hope to see you at future Green Day campus beautification events!

The Campus Beautification Committee’s Fall 2015 Green Day was a fantastic success. With so many volunteers, we were able to build a shed, lay irrigation in the garden, clean up a ton around campus, and involve the kids in a recycling art project! We look forward to more Green Days in 2016!

The Beautification Committee Thanks you!
