We’ve attempted to accommodate parent requests and student petitions to allow students to remain after school and play on our playground; however, we are no longer able to allow students to remain on campus to play after the school day.

When I was initially approached, I attempted to find ways to make this proposal work. Overall, our kids were making good choices, and I was happy to see the playground be used for games our students had casually organized. Our before and after school programs accommodated us and didn’t access the play areas until later in the afternoon.

In addition, several parents committed to monitoring “after-school recess” and that, coupled with our responsible children, resulted in my agreement to proceed, although it didn’t resolve my concerns regarding liability.

Unfortunately, we’ve had a couple of incidences where children were injured. As a result, children can no longer play on campus after school. This means no 4 square, no wall ball, no monkey bars, no tag, no blue bars, etc.

Thank you for your support and understanding.

Sincerely,
Principal Deb Ganderton
