The McKinley Elementary School Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Committee invites you to participate in our next meeting on Wednesday, April 19 at 6:30-8:00pm in the McKinley Library. Building on February’s school-sponsored training session with Dr. Vincent Pompei on creating safe and affirming schools for LGBTQ+ children, the JEDI Committee will host a facilitated parent-to-parent conversation about how to talk with our children about being and finding allies within their communities. All parents and caregivers are invited and welcome!
Led by McKinley parent Darlene Tando, LCSW, this practical and tactical session will focus on building foundations of understanding at home. We will talk about identity basics, using inclusive language, having developmentally appropriate conversations with our kids, building a climate of acceptance, and creating young allies.

While this series centers the experience of LGBTQ+ students and their classmates and friends, the concept discuss may be applied across other identities. Thank you for helping McKinley build a community in which every child feels they belong and is empowered to learn and thrive.
