Practices will be Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:15-4:30pm starting mid-September and running for 8 weeks at McKinley/Joint Use Park (JUP). Registration opens July 31st and scholarships are available.

GOTR works to encourage 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through dynamic, interactive lessons, and running games, culminating in a celebratory 5k run. Lessons are designed to:

  • build girls’ self-worth and confidence
  • teach girls to make intentional decisions and choose positive actions that demonstrate respect and responsibility towards themselves and others
  • develop their abilities to sympathize and empathize and respond to others and themselves with care and compassion, and
  • focus on cooperative skills and team building

All lessons and supplies are provided by GOTR. For more information about the program please visit

Given the nature of the pandemic and keeping the safety of coaches and program participants in mind, GOTR will offer a fluid model that allows for delivery of GOTR teams to seamlessly flow between in-person and virtual lessons based on the needs of the community. This includes modified, in-person lessons to allow for social distancing, ability to pivot to virtual programming if necessary and finishing the season with a celebratory event where teams will participate in their own site-based 5K in mid-November.

The Girls on the Run team at McKinley is looking for volunteer coaches for our fall season. New coaches will need to complete GOTR training as well as have a current tuberculosis skin test (PPD test) and volunteer form on file in the McKinley main office. One head coach is required at every practice and they need to be current in CPR. If needed, the head coach can attend a CPR class through GOTR. Coaches can come one or both days a week.
