ALISON DEARDEN
Ali Dearden has been a part of the McKinley family for nearly ten years. She was one of the original Foundation members and helped to create the current PTC/Foundation structure. Her youngest, Madi, is in first grade. Her other two kids, McKinley graduates, are at Roosevelt Middle School and San Diego High School—International Studies. Ali is very familiar with the International Baccalaureate program from the Primary Years through the high school diploma program—her son will graduate with an IB diploma next year. Ali is a dedicated McKinley parent and committed to its students. Her passion is ensuring the success of all students, no matter what their strengths or weaknesses may be. She believes programs provided through Foundation funds such as art, music, language, and gardening, help many students feel successful and improves academic performance as well. Ali would like to continue to serve McKinley students and families as Vice President of the McKinley PTC/Foundation.
DANIEL M. BENJAMIN
My son, Greffen, will be a second grader at McKinley Elementary next year. Having the opportunity for him to attend McKinley and its IB program was a key reason why my family moved to North Park. I attended an IB High School growing up and I believe that the IB program – which needs our support as parents – represents a real opportunity for better citizenship, learning, and development for our children. The McKinley PTC/Foundation allows all of us to invest in our children’s success, and to provide needed funds and support for their education and growth into members of our community. As a practicing attorney, I have had the opportunity to chair and serve on governmental and non-profit committees. If elected, I would work with my fellow committee members to build on the past success of the Foundation while looking for opportunities to continue its further development.
