“A School Site Wellness Committee (SSWC) is a group of individuals who represent the school and community population. This can include teachers, counselors, school health personnel, administrators, food service staff, students, parents and community members.” – San Diego Unified School District Website

McKinley’s School Site Wellness Committee welcomes interested parents, staff and community members to participate in furthering the health and wellbeing of McKinley students. Committee members gather to discuss, select and put forth health and wellness goals for students, staff and family & community based on the below components that are reviewed by the District on an annual basis:

  • Food & Nutrition
  • Physical Education
  • Physical Activity
  • Health Education
  • Health Services
  • Safe School Environment
  • Social-Emotional Wellness
  • Staff Wellness
  • Family & Community Involvement

At McKinley we already have some great things in place. For example, McKinley has a dedicated morning run club, a designated morning recess time in addition to play time after lunch, a garden program that obtained the “Garden to Café” certification last year, a full-time Physical Education instructor in addition to a Dance teacher, a counseling & school psychologist and a nurse’s office staffed daily just to name a few.
