This page explains what information the McKinley Elementary PTC website (mckinleyptc.org) collects, how we use it, and who to contact with questions. The McKinley PTC is a volunteer-run parent and teacher organization. We collect only what we need to run PTC programs, events and the school store, and we never sell your information.
The short version
- You can read this site without creating an account or telling us who you are.
- When you fill out a form, subscribe to updates, comment, or buy from the school store, we receive the information you enter and use it only for that purpose.
- Payments are processed by our payment providers. We never see or store your full card number.
- The site is hosted on WordPress.com, which uses cookies and collects basic visit statistics for us.
- We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not use it for advertising.
Information you give us
Forms. Our contact, volunteer, communications request and event sign-up forms ask for things like your name, email address, phone number, your child’s grade or teacher, and your message. Form entries are emailed to the PTC volunteers who handle that request and may be kept in the site and in PTC email inboxes or spreadsheets so we can follow up. We use them only to respond to you and run the program you signed up for.
Email updates. If you subscribe to PTC news, we keep your email address so we can send you new posts. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can stop at any time.
Comments. If you leave a comment, we keep the name, email address and comment you enter, plus your IP address and browser details to help catch spam. Comments are checked by Akismet, an anti-spam service. Your email address is never shown publicly.
School store orders. When you order McKinley gear, we collect your name, email, phone number, and billing and shipping address to process, deliver and answer questions about your order. Some items are printed and shipped by Printful, which receives the details needed to fulfill your order. We keep order records for PTC bookkeeping.
Payments and donations. Card and wallet payments are handled by PayPal (including Braintree and Venmo) and Square. Your payment details go directly to them and are covered by their privacy policies. The PTC sees only the order or donation amount and your contact details, never your full card number. Donations made on other sites we link to (for example, ticketing or fundraising pages) are covered by those sites’ policies.
Information collected automatically
This site runs on WordPress.com and uses Jetpack, both from Automattic. They set cookies and collect basic information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and referring site. The PTC sees this only as overall visit statistics (for example, how many people viewed a page). The school store also uses cookies to remember your cart. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the store may not work without them. To learn more, see the Automattic privacy policy and cookie policy.
Embedded content and other sites
Some pages include content from other services, such as Google Calendar, Google Forms, YouTube and social media posts, or link to other sites, such as San Diego Unified, TreeRing and event ticketing pages. Those services may collect information under their own privacy policies, which we do not control.
Photos of students
We sometimes share photos from school events to celebrate our community. We do not post students’ full names with their photos. If you would like a photo of your child removed, email us and we will take it down.
Children’s privacy
This website is meant for parents, guardians, staff and community members. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Who we share information with
We share information only with the PTC volunteers who need it, with the service providers that run the site, store, email and payments (listed above), and when required by law. We do not sell, rent or trade personal information.
Your choices
You can ask us to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or to stop contacting you. California residents have rights under state privacy law, and we will honor these requests for anyone who asks.
