Previously: The City of San Diego Park and Recreation board approved the General Development Plan for the Joint Use Park at McKinley on Thursday, September 18th!!!! This is a great victory after YEARS of hard work by parents, staff and our amazing community to create a plan that balances the needs of the students and community as well as providing TREES and a large natural turf area for all to enjoy!
A joint use park will provide for a number of improvements to the school grounds as well as making the southern end of the campus a city park that would be open to neighbors after-school and on the weekends. The project will make a positive impact on the school and the neighborhood community.
The San Diego Unified School District will now take over and move forward with the process of creating the park. This process will include hiring a consultant to create construction documents as well as creating a construction schedule once the documents are approved. As of today, they do not have a timeline for the process, but we are told that funding has been allocated to move forward with the process.
