Hello McKinley Families!
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year! I am Jennifer Renteria, your school counselor. Some of you may remember me from a few years ago, but for many of you, I am a new face. A little about me: this is my 5th year as a counselor with SDUSD. I am originally from Connecticut but have lived in San Diego for 16 years. I have my Masters degree from the University of San Diego and a Bachelors from the University of Connecticut. I love bike riding, hiking, cooking, and counseling! My 6 year old daughter attends McKinley and is in first grade this year, so I am extra excited to be returning as your counselor. I am truly looking forward to getting our year started!

Assigned days: Wednesday and every other Tuesday

Office Hours: Starting the week of September 7th
Wednesdays from 11:15 am to 12:30 pm (there is a slight possibility that this may change as we settle into the new school year, but I’m hopeful it won’t).
Please be aware that I am assigned to 2 other schools this year, and will be focusing on each school on their assigned day/s. However, please feel free to reach out at any time! Office hours are not the only time I am available–that is just a definitive time that I will be in my ‘office’ to field phone calls and return emails and texts.
This year is most unconventional for many of us, so remember, be patient with yourself, students and educators! Take time for self-care, take a few deep breaths, and take a walk in the sunshine! We can do this.
