Dear McKinley Parents and Guardians,

First and foremost, I hope everyone is healthy.  That wish eclipses all else.

I recognize that this past week has presented challenges that we would not have anticipated merely a month ago.  The strain to sustain employment while ensuring your child(ren) have access to meaningful educational opportunities is, no doubt, overwhelming.

Here’s the good news –  no one expects you to recreate a classroom experience.  Give yourself grace, not a grade.

Our district leadership team is committed to ensuring that all students have access to meaningful educational opportunities during school closures.  Here are the steps that have been taken:

  • March 13th –  Sites received direction to send students home with instructional support materials (eg: workbooks, journals, independent reading books) to support learning during school closures.
  • March 16thDistrict developed a bank of instructional resources by content and grade level.  These online supports were generated to provide families in San Diego Unified support during the first two weeks of our school closure (March 16th – 27th).   SDUSD Instructional Resources
  • Week of March 16th – 20th –  In addition to district developed supports, McKinley teachers supported student learning by providing a plethora of links to additional online academic opportunities.  (I know… I know… we sent a L.O.T.  Cannot be helped.  We’re a bunch of overachievers.)   Our teachers also used this time to touch base with their students and to engage in online learning opportunities .

When I receive District decisions and established next steps, I will disseminate that information to you all as quickly as possible.
