Synopsis:

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat, and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in SEUSSICAL JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat, our narrator, tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child who gets in trouble for thinking too many “thinks.”

Horton’s challenge is twofold – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!

Seussical Auditions!

McKinley Theatre Co. continues to grow and thrive! It is exciting that our program has attracted so many talented young performers, and we love that the arts are thriving at McKinley!

However, when faced with such a large cast size, there are certain aspects that need to be taken into consideration. Our priority is to give all participating performers the best experience possible, allowing them to learn a few things, be safe, and have fun.

With that in mind, all parts will be auditioned for (including the ensemble/chorus). We look for enthusiasm, listening skills, maturity, stage presence, and respectfulness. Once we reach our max cast size, some of our younger students may be wait-listed. We know it can be a disappointment, so if your child does not make the cast this year, please encourage them to audition again next year, and start preparing for the Variety Show in the Spring!

Thank you for understanding.

There are 3 types of auditions:

Ensemble audition:
Students will sing “Oh the Thinks you can Think,” in a small group, and then they will be dismissed. These students will be considered for chorus/singing roles only.

General audition:
For students who are interested in any and all roles. Students will sing “Oh the Thinks you can Think,” in a small group, and then will have the opportunity to read/recite lines and/or sing a solo (memorization is great, but not required!). These students will be considered for all roles, including leads, featured roles, and chorus parts.

Lead audition:
For students who really want to be considered for a specific or a lead role. Students will sing “Oh the Thinks you can Think,” in a small group, and then must sing an additional song as a solo and read lines (memorization is great, but not required!). These students will be considered for all roles, including leads, featured roles, and chorus parts.

Have your student look over the roles and character descriptions, so you can accurately state their interest  on the form (if your child doesn’t know what they want to audition for, or is happy with any role, there is a spot to mark that too!)

Also, if your child changes their mind about what part they’d like to audition for, that’s fine! Just have them let us know at the start of their audition.
